On Thursday, the general officer commanding the 15th Army Corps, General DP Pandey, led all ranks to lay wreaths on the remains of rifleman Shakir Manzoor Wagay, whose decomposed body was found in the district of Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir, one year after his kidnapping.
“Lt. Gen. Pandey and all ranks laid wreaths on the mortal remains of Courageous Heart Rifleman Shakir Manzoor Wagay of the 162 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) at the Chinar Corps War Memorial,” a door said. – Defense speech here.
He said Wagay was on bona fide military service at Balapur in Shopian on August 2, 2020, when he disappeared.
“The security forces had launched a thorough search at that time to locate him. After a thorough search, his burnt down vehicle was found in Rambhama, Kulgam. However, despite the persistent efforts of the security forces, rifleman Shakir Manzoor Wagay could not be found, ”he said.
Wagay’s father Manzoor Ahmed predicted his son was kidnapped by terrorists as some anti-national social media accounts claimed at the time that the rifleman was killed and his body was deliberately buried in one location unidentified, he said.
“According to the autopsy report, the death of the late rifleman Shakir Manzoor was due to serious injuries. The wound marks on him indicate that the rifleman Shakir Manzoor was tortured and murdered in the most brutal and inhumane manner by the terrorists, ”the spokesperson said.
Rifleman Shakir Manzoor (26) joined the army in June 2016. He was from Rishipura village in Shopian district and is survived by his parents.
