Azerbaijani military thwarted an attempt by Russian peacekeepers to illicitly transfer weapons to their area of responsibility in Karabakh, reports Azernews, citing local media.
At 5.15 p.m. on July 20, at an Azerbaijani army checkpoint, a convoy of Russian peacekeepers consisting of an 82A armored personnel carrier and three Ural military vehicles was stopped for inspection , which passed through Agdam along the Askaran-Agdara road.
At least five Kalashnikov assault rifles (AKM) were found in the luggage compartment of one of the vehicles between the sleeping mats during the search of the vehicles.
The convoy was stopped and returned due to a flagrant violation of regulations regarding the shipment of weapons and ammunition without proper documentation.
Earlier, it was reported that the Armenian Armed Forces initiated engineering, technical and construction works to establish combat positions in the village of Shushakend of Khojaly region.
Instead of stopping the illegal operations of the Armenian Armed Forces and the ongoing works, the Russian peacekeepers protected the Armenian gangs and created the conditions for them to continue working at night.
During a recent cabinet meeting on the results of the six months of 2022, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Russia is committed to withdrawing units of the Armenian Armed Forces from internationally recognized Azerbaijani territories; however, the Russian peacekeepers do not force them to do so, in violation of the trilateral agreement of November 10, 2020 signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia.
