Military officers have been deployed to provide security for two Division One League matches which are due to take place this weekend.
The decision was taken by the Ghana Football Association to curb any form of chaos that may arise due to the outcome of the match.
With just three points apiece, DOL Zone 2 league leaders Samartex host second-placed New Edubiase at Bekwai Gyamfis Park on Sunday.
Also in DOL Zone 3, only 2 points separate league leaders Oda Kotoku Royals and FC Tema Youth FC who also face off on Sunday.
Due to the mounting tension for the match, the Ghana Football Association has requested a larger military presence for both matches.
The GFA’s Safety and Security Committee explained that the decision to deploy more military for the match is a result of league positions and the points gap between the clubs in the two matches.
“The historical profile of matches involving these teams, the general security cooperation profile recorded at the home venues of these teams, the intelligence collected at these match venues, as well as anticipated events that may affect the safety of players, officials and spectators, before, during and after these selected matches,” the GFA said.
“The GFA would therefore like to urge the clubs and stakeholders involved in the above matches to offer their utmost support, cooperation and understanding for an incident-free matchday event,” the GFA statement added.
