India recalls sacrifice of Indian peacekeeper to UNSC

new York [US], Dec. 8 (NNA): India on Tuesday recalled the sacrifice of Indian peacekeeper Sepoy Johnson Beck to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and highlighted his contribution in troops to peacekeeping missions.
At the UNSC meeting for the countries contributing troops to the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) for the Israeli-Syrian ceasefire, Pratik Mathur, advisor to the Permanent Mission of India at the UN, recalled the sacrifice of Sepoy Johnson Beck.
Beck sacrificed his life in the line of duty while serving in the UNDOF mission. He was posthumously awarded the prestigious Dag Hammarskjold Medal.

India’s contributions to UN peacekeeping operations have been underscored by the experience and professionalism of the Indian armed forces, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA).
India’s participation in the first UN peacekeeping operations resulted in the creation of a growing number of Indian military officers seconded to the UN whose professionalism and experience contributed to the doctrine UN peacekeepers, MEA said.
India is currently the third largest troop contributor to UNDOF with a contingent of around 200 peacekeepers. (ANI)
