Japanese Ambassador meets Army Commander

Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Hideaki Mizukoshi on the eve of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Japan on Wednesday (26) paid a courtesy visit to General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defense Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of Green Agriculture Operations Center at Army Headquarters in Sri Jayawardenepura.
During the cordial interactions that followed at the Commander’s office, both agreed that two countries are united by mutual understanding and shared values over the past seventy years and highly valued the importance and common aspirations of the two peoples.
The Ambassador expressed his joy for the dedicated contribution of the armed forces in Sri Lanka in controlling the COVID 19 pandemic and various other national development roles, supported by the military, including the most recent coordination roles for the production of organic fertilizers. He also told General Shavendra Silva that Japan would continue its discussions with the Sri Lankan authorities with a view to further promoting bilateral assistance in a way that truly reflects Japan’s historical values and the close ties that prevail between the two nations.
General Shavendra Silva recalled with gratitude Japan’s medical support to the armed forces by offering ambulances, medical supplies and other relief kits during difficult times, as well as the continuous technical support that Japan has always provided as what a true friend of the country.
At the end of the cordial meeting, both shared memories as a token of goodwill. Mr. Katsuki Kotaro, Minister/Deputy Head of Mission and Captain Fukaura Gaku, Defense/Security Advisor were also associated with the meeting at the Commander’s Office.
