The Commander-in-Chief of the Lebanese Army, General Joseph Aoun, held a meeting in Yarzeh on Tuesday with the command staff and the commanders of the main units and regiments, during which he provided them with instructions and necessary measures to preserve security throughout the legislative elections and ensure their smooth running. completion.

“The army is operationally ready for this task and stands at the same distance from everyone, and what concerns it the most is the successful and democratic completion of the electoral process,” Aoun said in response to questions. campaigns targeting the military establishment in terms of keeping pace. with the ongoing preparations for the elections.

“The army adheres to its neutrality and does not support any party against another, but rather intervenes when there is a problem or friction to prevent the situation from escalating,” the army commander added.

He called on the parties concerned by the elections to assume their national responsibility and to cooperate with the military establishment to reach this deadline calmly and democratically.

As for the unfortunate incident of the Tripoli boat, Aoun claimed that “the military is continuing its research and has communicated with a number of friendly countries to help recover the boat”.

“The army has fulfilled its duty and has dealt with this issue in full transparency; it has also opened an investigation into the incident,” explained Aoun, deploring “the campaign of accusations and incitements to which the army was subjected following the incident” and its “exploitation for electoral purposes.
