Police withdraw VIP escorts
The Osun State Police Command said it had withdrawn escorts from all dignitaries and key figures ahead of elections scheduled for July 16.
speaking on TV channelsDeputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force’s Criminal Investigation Department, Johnson Kokumo, who is in charge of Osun’s elections, said the police informed the figures of the temporary withdrawal.
He said: ‘There is a standing instruction that all of these VIPs have police protection. We certainly have certain categories of Nigerian individuals who are statutorily entitled to these kinds of protections, so we also told them that we were going to remove them.
“We are temporarily removing them for the purposes of this election.”
He further said that the force had issued identification tags for officers taking part in the election and warned that officers without the issued tag would be arrested.
Kokumo was answering questions about police preparation for Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
He also noted that a number of 15 cult members had been arrested.
