DUSHANBE, December 27. / TASS /. Russia is starting to build a border guard post in Tajikistan on the border with Afghanistan, Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Igor Lyakin-Frolov said at a press conference on Monday, responding to a question from TASS.

“The problems [of security] were discussed in the bilateral and multilateral context. In particular, a decision was taken within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization on the strengthening of the Tajik-Afghan border. Another Russian contribution is the construction of a border guard post in the Shamsiddin Shohin area. [the Khatlon region in Tajikistan on the border with Afghanistan]. Funds have been allocated, the agreement has been signed and this project is moving into its practical phase and a modern border guard post will be built, ”the Russian diplomat said.

Russia has also supplied armaments to the Tajik army under these decisions, he said.

As the Russian Ambassador said, active work is underway “to modernize the 201st Russian military base” stationed in Tajikistan. In particular, the military base receives the last military equipment. It also organizes special exercises and maneuvers, with more than 40 such exercises being conducted this year, he said.

The 201st Russian military base is conducting bilateral exercises with Tajik partners and multilateral maneuvers within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) with the participation of other countries, said the Russian diplomat, welcoming the high level combat training.

“More attention will be paid to this issue [security on the Tajik-Afghan border], he stressed.
