Russian peacekeeper in Transnistria sacrifices his life to save drowning boy

CHISINAU, August 5. / TASS /. A Russian peacekeeper in Transnistria saved a drowning boy at the cost of his own life. The incident occurred on the Dniester River on August 1, the self-proclaimed republic’s interior ministry said Thursday.
A Russian peacekeeper was vacationing with his family on the Dniester River when he heard calls for help. A boy had been caught in a fishing net, abandoned on the river bed, and could drown at any time.

This is not the first instance of Russian peacekeepers rescuing local residents.
The Russian peacekeepers battalion in Transnistria has repeatedly been recognized as the best contingent of its kind in hot spots across the CIS. There has not been a single outbreak of violence and not a single person has been killed in the region for many years.
