Southern Army Commander Lt Gen JS Nain awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal

General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) of Pune Southern Command, Lt. Gen. JS Nain received the Param Vishisht Seva (PVSM) Medal from President Ram Nath Kovind during the investiture ceremony of the defense held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. The PVSM is awarded in recognition of the most outstanding peacetime service of the order.

“President Kovind presents Param Vishisht Seva Medal to Lt. Gen. Jai Singh Nain, AVSM, SM, Infantry,” Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a tweet posting the photo of the Southern Army commander receiving the President’s award.

Among the dignitaries present at the occasion were Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

Lieutenant General Nain had assumed charge of Southern Command on February 1, 2021. During his military career, the general officer served in a wide range of conflicts and terrain profiles. He has extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the North East. He commanded his battalion at the Line of Control in high-altitude terrain of the Gurez Valley in Jammu and Kashmir and in a southern command attack corps, a mountain brigade in the northeast, and then the Dagger Division based in Baramulla. Along the Western Front he commanded the strategically important Rising Star Corps.

The General Officer has experience in the branch of Military Secretary at different levels and he has played a pivotal role in formulating a number of policies relating to the effective management of the careers of officers in the Indian Army. He also had the privilege of serving as the Chief of Staff of two operationally active commands. His mandate abroad includes that of military observer within the framework of the United Nations Mission.

An alumnus of Sainik School, Kunjpura, National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Lieutenant General Nain was commissioned into the Dogra Regiment in June 1983. He graduated from the College of Wellington Defense Services Staff, Defense Management College. in Secunderabad and the National Defense College in Dhaka.
