SUBJECT: ARMY COMMANDER GROUP PETITION ON ILLEGAL DETENTION OF CIVILIAN ACCUSED OF SELLING IPOB BOOTS, CALL FOR POLL – Nigerian Army
The Nigerian Army (NA) Division 81 Headquarters has been made aware of an online posting making the rounds on social media that the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Center (RULAAC) petitioned the General Officer Commanding 81 NA Division, regarding the detention of a civilian named Jude Eze at Dodan Barracks, Lagos.
To set the record straight, it is worth recalling that Division 81 recently arrested several impostors posing as military personnel, who were paraded to the media and then handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further necessary action. Preliminary investigations of the imposters revealed that most of them acquired their military equipment from illegal vendors in Lagos. This discovery necessitated a raid on illegal vendors of military equipment in Lagos, leading to the arrest of several culprits.
Currently, an investigation into their activities is underway to obtain more intelligence and dispel some suspicions about their activities and networks, both inside and outside Nigeria, since this is a matter which affects the violation of national security.
The Division wishes to state that as soon as the investigation is complete, the suspect will be turned over to the appropriate security agency for further action.
Members of the general public should be assured that the Division will continue to respect and protect the rights of citizens as enshrined in the constitution.
The Division urges members of the public to continue to support its operations with credible information on observed illicit activities and crimes perpetrated by persons in military uniform, in order to rid Lagos and Ogun States of criminal elements using the military uniform as cover.
We kindly ask you to disseminate the information through your intermediary. Thank you for your usual cooperation
