WY Army National Guard plans vehicle maintenance facility in Sheridan – Sheridan Media

Vehicles parked at Wyoming National Guard facilities in Sheridan may soon no longer have to travel to the other side of the Bighorn Mountains for maintenance work.

The Wyoming National Guard plans to build a vehicle maintenance facility in Sheridan.

The Guard takes feedback regarding the location and design of the building.

One idea that has been suggested is to build the facility on military land north of Soldier Creek Road.

Wyoming Adjutant General Greg Porter says the current guard unit in northern Wyoming is too spread out and needs to be reorganized.

WY Adjutant General Greg Porter

“We will consolidate unity. Currently, the unit is split between the City of Sheridan, the City of Powell, and the City of Worland. We’re going to bring a new unit into the basin, occupying the Powell and Worland armories, then bring all the equipment back here to Sheridan. Originally, this vehicle maintenance facility was supposed to be in Lovell and it just didn’t make sense to then bring all the equipment back up the mountain to do the maintenance.

General Porter says the Guard hopes to have a location and building design ready and try to innovate sometime in the spring of 2023, and have the project completed in 2025.
